Patrick "Melvin" Currie
PATRICK MELVIN CURRIE - 85 - Dominion - Patrick Melvin Currie, 85, of 306 Neville Street, Dominion, passed away Saturday, September 4, 2004 at home, surrounded by his family. Born in Dominion, he was a son of the late John and Mary (Bennett) Currie. He was employed for many years as a mechanic with Dominion Coal Co. and later with DEVCO. A member of Immaculate Conception parish, Melvin was an original member of the Men's Club. He was an honorary member of Branch 78, Royal Canadian Legion and was an avid horseman, enjoying many years of training and racing horses. He was inducted into the CB Horseman's Hall of Fame. Melvin got great pleasure in sharing his ponies - for the past 20 years- at many children's birthday parties. A devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, he is survived by his wife of 64 years, Bernadette, children Arlene of Dominion, Melvin (Kathy) of Lingan, Paul (Linda) of Dominion, Angus (Yvonne) of Owen Sound, Maryann of Oakville, Estelle (Jim) of Musquodobolt, Stephanie (Bill) of London, John of Alberta, Sheldon (Kay) of River Ryan, Beverly (Mike) of Glace Bay, Anita (David) of Musquodobolt, Doreen (Jim) of Mississauga. He is also survived by brother, John (Carmen), sisters Catherine (Pat), and Anne (Sam), sisters-in-law, Kathleen and Carmella. Besides his parents, Melvin was predeceased by an infant daughter Lillian, brothers and sisters Angs, Cecil, Marcella, Danny and Lawrence. Visitation Tuesday 2-4 & 7-9 pm in Curry's Funeral ome, 775 Main Street. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday 2 pm in Immaculate Conception Church, Rev. Jim Oliver officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Donations in Melvin's memory may be made to Immaculate Conception Parish or a charity of choice.
Melvin married Bernette Corbett, daughter of Pierce Corbett and Mary Ann Wadden. (Bernette Corbett was born about 1920 in Dominion, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, Canada 5.)
