bullet  General Notes:

Heiress of Arthington Hall ....

Arthington lies about a mile to the North of Breary. From the 1150's the area possessed a Nunnery or Priory of the Cluniac order which at the time of its dissolution in 1540 was granted to Thomas Cranmer, Archbishop of Canterbury. Later it would have provided land for the wealthy Puritan yeomen to purchase. Arthington Hall was built on the site in 1585 by the family of the same name but was rebuilt sometime in Charles I's reign. Later in the 1800's it became a farm property owned by the 2nd Earl of Harwood.
