BEZANSON, REV. HAZEN DAVID MURRAY - Rev. Hazen David Murray Bezanson, 86, went to be with His Lord, Wednesday, September 25, 2002 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. He was born in Halifax in 1916 where he was an infant survivor of the Halifax Explosion. He spent the greater part of his life in Sydney, N.S. His first job was as a delivery boy for Mr. Purlin. He also worked as a butcher at Miles Marketeria and in the office at Imperial Oil. He then felt the call to enter the ministry. Shortly after his marriage to Ethel (Hadley) in 1943 he pastored two churches in Guysborough County, N.S. During this time he and his wife Ethel also took care of nieces Joan (Vickers) and Beverly (Derr). He later ministered to Baptist Churches in Minto, N.B., Sable River, Port Mouton, Parrsboro as well as St. Giles Presbyterian Church in North Sydney. He was minister of visitation at Edith Avenue Baptist Church in Saint John. At the same time he served as the first full time minister for Smithtown, Titusville and Salt Springs area churches. He retired from active ministry when he and Ethel moved to Truro, supply pastoring in Bass River and Belmont/Debert N.S. In 1986 he returned to Saint John and did visitation ministry thru Hillcrest Baptist Church. For the last twelve years he has made his home in Hampton with his daughter Cheryl. Hazen is survived by his daughter Cheryl, several sisters and brothers-in-law and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Ethel (Hadley), parents David and Sadie (Gillis) Bezanson, an infant sister Mary, brother Bert and sister Dorothy. Visiting will be at Reid's Funeral Home (832-5541), 1063 Main Street, Hampton, Friday 7-9pm and Saturday 2:30-4pm and 7-9pm. Funeral services will be held in Sydney, N.S. at a later date. Charitable donations may be made to Hillcrest Baptist Church memorial fund, Smithtown Baptist Church memorial fund, Heart and Stroke Foundation, or the charity of the donor's choice. www.reidsfh.com
